History
The Origins of Cheshire Live Steamers
In 1996, a group of like-minded steam enthusiasts, got together to set up a club primarily to offer its members boiler testing for miniature steel boilers. The maximum scale boiler that can be tested is 6” to the foot. Testing of most club boilers is done in March each year, usually a Sunday when all are welcome to view the proceedings.
This testing activity is supplemented by a short programme of winter meetings that keep us together socially as well as delivering talks of interest. One of the joys of belonging to CLS is that it has no ‘property’ requiring maintenance and there are no club activities requiring lots of risk assessments.
Members attend rallies during the summer all over the North West and Wales
Steam boaters also belong to the club. Their boat boilers are inspected under the Steam Boat Association scheme, usually on a Sunday in April. Members’ boats can be seen on the local rivers, canals and at rallies on Lake Windermere.
